I directed this three camera shoot for the “Water” LSA Theme Semester campaign. Our goal for the campaign was to enrich our student’s education by engaging them with the examination of a series of relevant water issues. We decided to do a video addressing single use bottled water on campus. The spoof commercial format we chose delivers the message in a way that we felt would be accessible to a wider audience. Sony Music artists Passion Pit let us use the song “The Reeling” to accompany the skating of Olympic Medalists Meryl Davis and Charlie White. Meryl and Charlie really got the irony we were trying to achieve, and delivered nuanced funny performances by working our printed stainless steel ‘Tap Water’ bottles into the choreography.
The video was viewed over 4,000 times in the first week it appeared on YouTube. It was featured on the U of M gateway page, and numerous comments have been posted on it by students as well as alumni.
